ASX-listed Lindian Resources executive chairperson Robert Martin this week hosted senior representatives of the US government at the company’s Kangankunde rare-earths project in Malawi.

The delegation included deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs Nicholas Checker. Meetings were also held in Lilongwe with Checker and deputy chief of mission for the US embassy in Malawi, Melania Arreaga.

“Following on from a very constructive round of talks in Washington DC, it was a pleasure to sit down and continue those discussions,” said Martin in a statement on Monday.

The visit took place against the backdrop of recent global developments in which the US has emphasised the need to secure reliable, high-quality supply chains for critical minerals, including rare-earth elements, as part of broader strategic and economic policy objectives.

Discussions centred on the growing strategic importance of rare earths to the global energy transition and the essential role that stable, high-grade supply chains play in supporting advanced manufacturing, renewable energy technologies and national security applications.

The company noted that rare earths remain a recognised critical mineral group globally, with international attention increasingly focused on long term supply stability. In this context, Lindian said that Kangankunde continuds to be recognised as one of the world’s premier rare earth deposits.

“The commitment for DAS Checker to visit the site from Washington shows that Kangankunde is becoming a significant part of the global rare earth supply chain,” said Martin

Lindian said it outlined the strong development progress under way at Kangankunde and reaffirmed the project’s future contribution of high-grade rare-earth supply into global markets.

The company added that constructive dialogue was held regarding the potential role Kangankunde could play in helping to address the emerging supply gap, particularly for processing pathways aligned with US and allied demand centres.

Lindian added that the visit followed significant progress across early works, non-process infrastructure and contracting activities, all of which continued to support the company’s pathway toward targeted first production.

“Lindian looks forward to ongoing engagement with representatives of the US government and other global partners as Kangankunde progresses to full production in 2026,” the company stated.
