Project Description
The proposed converter will refine lithium-bearing rock into high-purity lithium hydroxide, which the electric vehicle (EV) industry and its suppliers require to manufacture batteries for EVs.

The proposed converter is expected to produce about 24 000 t/y of lithium hydroxide, equivalent to the volume needed to equip about 500 000 electric cars with lithium-ion batteries.

Potential Job Creation
The proposed converter is expected to provide significant and enduring economic benefits, including the direct and indirect creation of more than 500 jobs during its construction and operation.

About $683-million.

The project is expected to start operating from 2025.

Latest Developments
Rock Tech Lithium has announced government approval for its planned lithium refinery.

The Brandenburg State Office for the Environment issued the final approval for the refinery on May 20, paving the way for 24 000 t/y of battery-grade lithium hydroxide production.

The Guben refinery is the first of two refineries that Rock Tech plans to build. The other will be located in Red Rock, Ontario.

Rock Tech plans to source raw material from its Georgia Lake spodumene project, in Thunder Bay, also in Ontario, as well as procure raw material from discarded batteries.
