Canada-headquartered Majestic Gold has suspended operations at its Denggezhuang (DGZ) underground mine in China’s Shandong province following a fatal accident involving a mineworker struck by loose rock.

The incident occurred during risk-removal operations, the company said in a statement on Monday.

Authorities, including the Shandong Emergency Management Department and the State Mine Safety Supervision Administration, have ordered a production halt at the DGZ mine and temporarily suspended relevant licences.

An investigation team has been formed to assess the cause of the accident, determine accountability, and evaluate economic losses.

Yantai Mujin, the company’s local subsidiary, is cooperating with regulators and awaiting a formal adjudication from the local labour authority.

Majestic said it was working to improve safety systems and ensure compliance before resuming operations.
