Founded in 2006 with a focused goal, protecting miners in underground environments, intelligent business solutions provider Matrix has spent nearly 20 years redefining what mine‑safety equipment can achieve.

By working closely with customers across varied mining conditions, Matrix identified the shortcomings of equipment that operated independently from the rest of the mine’s safety infrastructure. Proximity detection alone could not solve the industry’s growing challenges. Equipment needed to communicate, integrate and interpret risk in real time.

Matrix Design Africa designs safety-led technologies that move beyond compliance, enabling mining and industrial operations to
become safer, smarter and more proactive through integrated, data-driven solutions. Technologies such as OmniPro collision warning and DeltaERP were created to address different operational needs while complementing one another.

Mining Weekly interviewed Matrix Design Africa engineering and software development director Albert Zuidersma and general management and business development director Alex Mac Donald at the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Tuesday at the company's stand.
