Nevada Lithium welcomes addition of boron to US critical minerals list
TSX-V-listed Nevada Lithium Resources has welcomed the addition of boron to the US Department of the Interior’s 2025 Critical Minerals List, noting that its Bonnie Claire lithium project in Nevada hosts the state’s largest boron resource alongside lithium.
The updated list, released on Friday, recognises boron as a material essential to the US economy and national security. With both lithium and boron now designated critical, Bonnie Claire is projected to generate revenue from two key materials prioritised by the federal government.
“Advocates for boron’s inclusion onto the US Critical Minerals List have long recognized the importance of boron to various segments of US industry and defence,” said Nevada Lithium CEO Stephen Rentschler. “The formal inclusion of boron onto the updated 2025 list reflects the increasing realisation of US dependence on many raw materials that Nevada Lithium’s 100%-owned Bonnie Claire project could provide.”
The August 2025 preliminary economic assessment for Bonnie Claire outlines an expected annual output of 62 000 t of lithium carbonate and 129 000 t of boron (as boric acid) over a 61-year mine life. The contribution from boron is expected to reduce lithium carbonate production costs by $1 973/t, based on a long-term boric acid price of $950/t – an estimate made prior to boron’s critical designation.
Boron’s addition to the list may also enable Nevada Lithium to access US government funding programmes supporting critical minerals development, including initiatives from the Department of War, Office of Strategic Capital, and the US International Development Finance Corporation.
The recently enacted One Big Beautiful Bill Act authorises $5-billion in direct investments and up to $100-billion in loans and guarantees for critical minerals projects.
In addition to lithium and boron, the company has identified cesium and rubidium mineralisation within the project’s high-grade Lower zone, which remains open in three directions. Work is under way to assess the recoverability of these additional critical minerals.
“The coexistence of high-grade lithium, boron, cesium and rubidium in the Lower zone gives Bonnie Claire the potential to become a significant long-term contributor to the US critical minerals supply chain,” Rentschler said.
The Lower zone contains an estimated 85.7-million tonnes of inferred, and 17-million tonnes of indicated, boric acid equivalent resources.
