Orapa No. 2 ore processing plant on planned annual maintenance shutdown

12th May 2025

Font size: - +

Debswana Diamond Company wishes to clarify that Orapa No. 2 plant is undergoing its annual scheduled maintenance shutdown for the month of May and has not ceased operations as reported in the media. This planned shutdown is a routine operational process designed to ensure the plant remains efficient and reliable in order to enhance safety and optimize performance.

The planned maintenance at the Orapa No.2 Plant is a standard routine operational procedure conducted each year to ensure continued efficiency, safety, and reliability of the Plant. It is a proactive measure that supports long-term safety performance and operational excellence. Typically, the dates for maintenance shutdowns are scheduled well in advance and timely communication of these made to employees, contractors and relevant stakeholders.

As previously communicated, in March 2025, the Debswana Board approved a set of strategic measures in response to the ongoing market conditions. These included rationalization of production by placing the tailings treatment facilities at Letlhakane and Jwaneng Mines under long-term asset preservation, while maintaining mainstream carats production at the Orapa No. 2 Ore Processing Plant and the Jwaneng Main Treatment Plant.

We urge all contractors, business partners and stakeholders to continue relying on our official communication channels and engagements for business updates and any new developments regarding Debswana matters.
