Resolute trims guidance as Syama disruptions persist
Africa-focused gold miner Resolute Mining has reported group gold production of 59 857 oz for the September quarter, down from 75 962 oz in the prior period, with output impacted by the rainy season, stockpile processing at Mako in Senegal, and continued supply chain disruptions at Syama, in Mali.
All-in sustaining costs (AISC) rose to $2 205/oz, compared with $1 668/oz in the June quarter, owing to lower gold production and higher government royalties linked to elevated gold prices. Quarterly sales totalled 63 483 oz at an average realised price of $3 404/oz, while net cash increased to $136.6-million.
CEO Chris Eger said supply chain constraints in Mali impacted Syama’s output, despite operational improvements. "We have made key management changes at both Syama and in Bamako. Our new COO, Gavin Harris, has spent considerable time on site at Syama leading operational initiatives which are already delivering value."
However, Eger said that supply chain issues had a meaningful impact on gold production and while the group was cautiously optimist that the issues were being addressed, the situation remained "unpredictable".
“Earlier this month, I was in Mali to meet the Prime Minister and Minister of Mines to help establish a stronger line of communication and to discuss the supply chain challenges facing the industry which have continued to impact performance at Syama,” he said.
Eger also reported that Resolute had made considerable progress on the Syama Sulphide conversion project, which remained on budget and on track for commissioning in mid-2026.
During the quarter, the CCIL tanks were commissioned, and the pebble crusher was due to be commissioned shortly. He said both would immediately add operational flexibility to the current operation.
Resolute has revised its group production guidance to between 275 000 oz and 285 000 oz, from 275 000 oz to 300 000 oz, with a corresponding increase in AISC to $1 750/oz to $1 850/oz. The adjustment reflects higher expected output at Mako, where performance has exceeded expectations, and lower guidance at Syama, where supply challenges have weighed on operations.
Syama's guidance was lowered to between 177 000 oz and 183 000 oz, from a previous range of 195 000 oz to 210 000 oz. Syama's AISC was revised to $1 900/oz to $2 050/oz, from $1 700/oz to $1 800/oz.
At Mako, the company continues to advance its life extension project, with drilling at the Tomboronkoto and Bantaco satellite deposits showing encouraging results.
Meanwhile, in Côte d’Ivoire, Resolute is progressing the Doropo gold project, where an updated mineral resource estimate in September lifted contained gold by 28% to 4.36-million ounces. The company expects to release an updated definitive feasibility study before year-end.
