RWW Engineering
RWW Engineering is a South African based manufacturer of electrical equipment for industry, mining and utilities, with 35 years of experience. RWW specializes in High Power PV Inverters, LV and MV switchgear, motor control, reactive power and power quality equipment.
The company has been appointed as the local manufacturer of inverters for Spanish company Green Power Technologies. RWW builds the WD3 range of inverters at their Johannesburg factory, using components supplied by the Spanish company. The units are high capacity in power rating and modular in construction. The inverters, which produce 3-phase AC power, are controlled by a head unit which operates as a central unit providing communication and control functionality. It also houses the AC output bridge, the AC busbar connections to the transformer and provides additional protection and control functions. Each power module takes the DC from the PV panels and converts it to AC using high power IGBT convertors.
RWW is responsible for the steel work, copper-work, wiring, electrical and mechanical assembly and factory testing. The company also provides site commissioning services in preparation for connection to the local distribution grid. Due to the local manufacturing expertise full site service and backup is provided.
To date 74 inverters totalling in excess of 300MW for four projects have been built, installed and commissioned within the last two years.
In addition to the inverter manufacture RWW specializes in power quality solutions for the renewable industry, providing harmonic filters, reactive power equipment, dynamic compensation (Statcom & SVC) and active harmonic filtering.
RWW has recently undertaken various projects to mitigate the higher order harmonics produced by wind turbines and PV inverters, in order to obtain Grid Code Compliance for the sites.
