Conferencing and training specialists Pinpoint Stewards will be hosting the 3rd Annual Women & Leadership in Mining conference. The annual conference aims to highlight women leaders in mining across South Africa. Taking place on 28 & 29 August 2024 at the NH Collection Sandton hotel (previously Hilton), the conference has become a highlight for women in mining.
Pinpoint Stewards Co-Owner Ankia Roux highlights that various measures have been put in place to include more women in mining, such as:
- The Minerals Council and its members have set stretch targets to double the percentage of women in mining by 2025, towards a 30% to 40% representation across industry and 50% in management over the next decade;
- The draft Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Strategy for the Mining and Minerals Sector by the DMRE;
- The Minerals Council Women in Mining White Paper guidelines published in March 2020 and
- Internal efforts and policies implemented by mining companies and funding initiatives through PPP’s
She adds, “While it is encouraging to see the aggressive stance being taken for women empowerment in SA Mining, the two-day conference will bring stakeholders together to collaborate on ideas to fast-track the implementation of the above - Counteracting against challenges women experience while, entering, moving-up or leading.”
