Savannah resumes gold production at Georgetown plant
Production has resumed at the Georgetown gold processing plant in Far North Queensland, marking Savannah Goldfields' first gold pour since January.
The ASX-listed firm said on Friday that all key components of the plant, including the crushing, milling, gravity recovery, leaching and elution circuits, were now operating. The first gold doré, weighing about 1.5 kg, was poured following the recommissioning of the gold room, with the metal content still to be determined.
Lower-grade material is currently being fed into the mill as operations ramp up to steady-state conditions. The company has more than 3 500 t of crushed feed available and another 6 000 t of uncrushed material stockpiled on site.
CEO Brad Sampson described the restart as “a significant milestone for this company and our community", thanking employees and business partners for their support.
Savannah is preparing to begin mining up to 18 000 t of inferred mineral resource from a small openpit at Big Reef later this month. The miner is also finalising an application to amend its Agate Creek environmental authority to allow for expanded mining, with operations there expected to resume in the second quarter of 2026.
The Georgetown plant – located about 10 km south of the township of Georgetown – is the only processing facility within a 400 km radius. Savannah plans to position it as a regional hub capable of treating ore from multiple nearby deposits under its hub-and-spoke strategy.
The company is also advancing plans to modify the plant to process sulphide ores and is in talks with third parties interested in toll treating their material at the facility.
