At this year’s African Utility Week, tank manufacturer SBS Tanks was announced as Gold Sponsors of the event, as well as participants for the first time. With a stand that had people talking and lectures that were inspiring, SBS Tanks was integral to the water conversation.

The SBS Tanks stand was a major talking point, as it was constructed on a one-fifth sized corner version of one of its panel tanks. Complete with inner PVC liner, fittings, valves and level indicators, the tank stood out to those who walked past, and showcased the high-quality product on offer.

SBS Tanks contributed to three different lectures at the conference, where delegates were inspired to innovate, reduce water loss, and recycle wastewater. SBS Tanks marketing manager James Preston gave a lecture at the water workshop on how imperative innovation is in the water sector, citing the fact that 70% of the world’s surface is made up of water, but only 5% is drinkable. Innovation is waiting to tap into this major opportunity and desalination technology has not been fully explored.

SBS Tanks is currently working closely with urban development group Sembcorp Siza Water’s wastewater and effluent plant that recycles two megalitres of water daily, supplying the holiday town of Ballito, north of Durban. After a failure of one of their traditional tanks, SBS Tanks was able to supply a temporary one megalitre tank within four days. It is this kind of technology that SBS Tanks is proud to contribute to other innovative companies like Sembcorp.

In addition, SBS Tanks sponsored the “Water Utility of the Year Award” at the African Utility Week Industry Awards, which was announced at the prestigious event to be the Lilongwe Water Board in Malawi. All in all, it was an incredible week for SBS Tanks, who were delighted to play a key role in the conference and show, and hope to see African governments respond to the urgent call of innovation in the water industry.
