Multinational mining and metals processing group Sibanye-Stillwater has announced its continued inclusion, since 2016, as a constituent in the FTSE4Good Index Series, while gold miner Harmony Gold Mining Company has been included for the eighth consecutive year.

Created by the global index and data provider FTSE Russell, the FTSE4Good Index Series is designed to measure the performance of companies demonstrating strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.

FTSE Russell evaluations are based on performance in areas including corporate governance, health and safety and ESG criteria.

Sibanye-Stillwater has a diverse portfolio of operations, projects and investments across five continents, while Harmony is a gold mining specialist with a growing international copper footprint.

“We are pleased with our continued inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index, which demonstrates the group’s ongoing commitment to improvement through our actions and transparent reporting,” says Sibanye-Stillwater CEO Neal Froneman.

“Harmony’s inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series is testament to our consistent and measurable progress in sustainability practices. We have maintained an impressive percentile rank of 93 within the Industry Classification Benchmark supersector, surpassing both industry and subsector averages across all ESG pillars.

“As a purpose-driven mining company, we are committed to sustainability and the proactive management of material risks and opportunities. Our focus is on creating long-term value and delivering a lasting positive impact for all stakeholders,” says Harmony CEO Beyers Nel
