ASX-listed Sierra Rutile has suspended operations at a part of Area 1, Sierra Leone, to conduct a review into the death of a worker on site on Monday.

Expressing the company’s condolences, MD and CEO Theuns de Bruyn said that it was a sad day for Sierra Rutile and its people.

“We have launched an investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event and will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities on the ground in Sierra Leone,” he said in a statement.

Sierra Rutile restarted operations at Area 1 in late May, following a new contract for additional power generation capacity.
