Submersible wastewater pumps offer considerable motor power
SECURE MOTOR Two bidirectional mechanical seals reliably protect the motor space of KSB’s Amarex KRT submersible motor pump against water ingress
Global pumps and valves manufacturer KSB Pumps & Valves launched its range of Amarex KRT submersible motor pumps in May, which it says offers the highest-standard motor power available on the market today.
Designed to successfully manage municipal and industrial wastewater in a cost-effective manner, the submersible motor pumps are available with four different impeller types and can achieve a maximum flow rate of 10 080 m3/h and a head of 120 m at 850 kW of power.
Moreover, KSB states that the electric drives for these modern submersible motor pumps are highly efficient and, depending on a system’s load profile, users can choose a motor variant that corresponds to the IE3 efficiency level for standardised motors, in accordance with the IEC6003430 standard. Such motors are particularly applicable to powerful pumps with a high start-up frequency, as two bidirectional mechanical seals reliably protect the motor space against water ingress, the company explains.
KSB has focused on improving the operating reliability and hydraulic efficiency of the pump by considering the typical operating ranges of wastewater pumping stations and adjusting the impellers’ free passages, which makes it possible for the pumps to meet the needs of a range of applications.
A chamber filled with environment-friendly oil also ensures the cooling and lubrication of the mechanical seals even when gas-laden fluids have to be pumped. Generously dimensioned ball bearings sealed for life support the stainless steel shaft. Special focus is also placed on the design of the cable gland. Individual conductors stripped, tinned and sealed in resin ensure that the cable gland is absolutely watertight even in the event of damage to the cable sheath or the insulation. This also effectively protects the pump from short circuits.
To ensure that the pumps can be easily dismantled, even after years of operation under tough conditions, all wetted screwed connections are made of stainless steel. KSB also supplies pumps made from high-grade stainless and acid-resistant duplex steel for transporting acid wastewater.
KSB has manufacturing sites, supply hubs and service centres in 19 countries, including South Africa, where it has branches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit, Richards Bay, Rustenburg, Secunda and Vereeniging.
The company’s pumps range includes products for a vast spectrum of applications, from domestic rainwater systems to process pumps and power station boiler feed units. KSB’s valves are produced in various designs, sizes and materials to suit a range of applications.
