Tank supplier Container World is committed to honouring its long-term contract with global shipping company the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) through its supply of tanks for diesel storage, the most recent of which entailed the supply of 11 such tanks for an MSC ship.

The tanks – already in use for a month – are storing excess diesel for the ship’s generators, which are used to power the refrigerated reefer containers and to keep them running at the desired pre-set, says Container World MD Darren Singh.

“The product stored in the reefer containers is fruit being exported to the international market. These reefers are temperature sensitive and need to be monitored constantly to ensure that there is no significant drop in temperature that will affect the fruit’s quality.”

The long-standing business relationship between Container World and MSC is proof of the safety that accompanies the use of the tanks for static fuel storage, moving fuel storage, and the storage or transportation of chemicals, he adds.

Further, Container World has also completed several on-site fuel and liquid storage projects for numerous multisectoral industry players.

It has leased and sold tanks to various mining companies to store diesel during periods when the combination of South Africa’s weak rand and fluctuating fuel prices had significant effects on input costs.

Clients could use the stored fuel as a means of reducing overheads during the periods when the price of diesel increased, resulting in an overall cost-saving for fuel-reliant processes at mining and other operations.

Meanwhile, a noteworthy achievement for Container World is its ongoing lease deals with State-owned power utility Eskom and construction company Rotek for the storage of transformer oil during maintenance processes at transformer substations.

The company also specialises in supplying food-grade tanks for manufacturers that produce end-products meant for human consumption, such as the supply of tanks to various companies during the water shortages, in Cape Town, between 2017 and 2019.

On an international scale, Container World’s tanks were shipped to Antarctica, through Cape Town-based luxury tour company White Desert for the purpose of storing JET A1 fuel.

Container World’s tanks and containers are, therefore, “universally applicable” across various businesses and industries, including those in the mining sector.

Since 1983, Container World has been producing premium-quality tanks and containers for the storage of liquid fuels and chemicals for an array of industries, with every tank being inspected by third-party depot surveyors who ensure that the tanks are safe and compliant with the regulations stipulated for their respective storage purposes.

“Tanks have very few moving parts, and in all the years – and with our maintenance standard – we have had no issues with our tanks that have been leased and/or sold,” enthuses Singh.
