Transnet Freight Rail’s (TFR’s) North Corridor accomplished the delivery of 1.41-million tonnes last week, marking the most substantial weekly performance in terms of volume for the current financial year.

This includes the transport of 1.18-million tonnes of export coal to the Richards Bay Coal Terminal and the running of 11 chrome trains.

This achievement not only sets the record for the highest volume reached this financial year but also signifies a considerable enhancement from the previous record of 1.40-million tonnes.

This level of operation also establishes a new benchmark for the number of trains run within a single week during the current financial year.

A series of operational enhancements have been introduced on the North Corridor, contributing positively to the performance outcomes for this corridor, TFR says.

These enhancements include the increased availability of rolling stock and improved safety measures to prevent theft and vandalism.

“This achievement is the result of the unwavering efforts of our employees and our stakeholders, both labour and our customers, who have worked safely and relentlessly every day. We are exceedingly proud of this success.

“This milestone paves the way for the North Corridor to reclaim its former glory,” says North Corridor acting managing executive Theo Johnson.

“The milestone achieved by the North Corridor is a definitive demonstration of our collective capability and serves as the motivation needed for sustained excellence and growth across TFR as we advance.

“This accomplishment is a pivotal step in our journey of rebuilding and recovery, affirming that we are on the correct path. I want to express my profound appreciation to the North Corridor team and all our stakeholders for their exceptional dedication and effort,” adds TFR CE Russell Baatjies
