US uranium miners hail Trump's nuclear executive orders

President Donald Trump's May 2025 executive orders aim to remove regulatory barriers and unleash US nuclear energy.
President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders to quadruple the US nuclear fleet and rebuild the domestic uranium fuel cycle are being met with enthusiasm from the country’s uranium developers, which say the move validates years of strategic positioning and investment in American resources.
Issued on Friday, the directives invoke the Defense Production Act, task the Department of Energy (DoE) with rebuilding the US front-to-back fuel cycle, and aim to restore domestic control over nuclear energy – measures that both Uranium Energy Corp (UEC) and Premier American Uranium (PUR) say could transform the nation’s energy security landscape.
“These executive orders send the strongest signal yet that energy security and national security start with a robust domestic uranium supply chain,” said UEC president and CEO Amir Adnani. “UEC is ready to support this transformation with secure, reliable, and 100% domestic uranium supply to power the future.”
Adnani pointed to the US overreliance on foreign uranium – currently supplying only 5% of its own nuclear fuel – as a vulnerability the new policy aims to correct. The White House fact sheet described the fuel cycle as “severely atrophied” and outlined plans for procurement programmes, public-private partnerships, and support for vertically integrated domestic uranium production.
For Premier American Uranium, which holds projects across Wyoming, New Mexico, and Colorado, the orders mark a policy inflection point that bolsters its US-focused platform.
“Premier American Uranium was created with one goal in mind – to meet the rising demand for domestic uranium driven by America’s nuclear resurgence,” said CEO Colin Healey. “The recent executive orders outline a clear federal commitment to rebuilding the US nuclear fuel cycle. These developments support the direction we have taken with our project portfolio and provide important context for our continued exploration and growth efforts.”
The orders also call for a scale-up of nuclear power capacity from the current 100 GW to up to 400 GW by 2050, through accelerated licensing, large-scale reactor construction, and uprates at existing plants. Key elements include revitalising uranium mining, enrichment and conversion, and creating DoE-backed offtake programmes for US-origin fuel.
The directives also emphasise workforce development, pledging to expand apprenticeships and strengthen ties with National Labs to build a talent pipeline for advanced reactors and other next-generation nuclear technologies.
“This is the clearest indication yet that uranium is not just a mineral, but a matter of national strategy,” said Adnani. “By acting now, the US is asserting leadership in the global nuclear energy transition – and we intend to be at the center of that resurgence."
