Women in Mining Business
Women in Mining Business (WiMBIZ) is a dynamic non-profit organization that has established a crucial platform for women entrepreneurs to gain access to procurement and business opportunities within the expansive and often challenging mining value chain. Founded with the mission to bridge the gender gap in the mining industry, WiMBIZ recognizes the unique challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in this sector. These challenges range from limited access to funding and business networks to difficulties in breaking into established supply chains. WiMBIZ seeks to address these barriers by offering a supportive network and tangible opportunities for women to grow their businesses, access new markets, and gain visibility on an international scale.
A key element of WiMBIZ’s strategy is its partnership with Electra Mining Africa, one of the continent’s largest and most influential trade shows for the mining, manufacturing, automation, electrical, and power industries. Hosted by the Montgomery Group, this biennial event attracts thousands of industry leaders, innovators, and decision-makers from around the world. By collaborating with Electra Mining Africa, WiMBIZ is making a concerted effort to provide women entrepreneurs with the otherwise unaffordable opportunity to showcase their businesses on this prestigious global stage. This partnership is a testament to WiMBIZ’s commitment to leveling the playing field and ensuring that women-owned businesses have access to high-value procurement and networking opportunities.
The Electra Mining Africa 2024 event, scheduled to take place from September 2nd to 6th, promises to be a landmark occasion for WiMBIZ and the women entrepreneurs it supports. Throughout the event, WiMBIZ will be prominently featured with its own exhibition stand in Hall 10(Stand B43), offering participating women entrepreneurs a dedicated space to display their products and services through the directory booklet that will be distributed, engage with potential clients and partners and build brand recognition within the industry. The exhibition stand will serve as a hub for showcasing the innovation, resilience, and diversity that women bring to the mining sector. Additionally, WiMBIZ will provide conference and networking areas, creating an environment conducive to meaningful discussions, knowledge exchange, and the forging of strategic partnerships.
In alignment with its goal to provide valuable insights and foster meaningful discussions, WiMBIZ has planned two key activities during the event. One of the highlights will be the 'Conference within a Conference,' set to take place on September 5th. This event will feature a series of panel discussions and keynote speeches focusing on critical topics relevant to women-led businesses in the mining industry. These discussions will delve into how women entrepreneurs can leverage technology to drive innovation and efficiency in their operations, enhance their financial wellness through sound business practices and strategic investments, and maximize their networking efforts to build lasting, impactful relationships. By bringing together industry experts, successful women entrepreneurs, and thought leaders, the Conference within a Conference aims to equip participants with practical tools and knowledge to overcome challenges and thrive in the competitive mining sector.
Another anticipated event is the Networking Cocktail party, scheduled for September 3rd. This gathering will provide a relaxed yet dynamic environment where women entrepreneurs can connect with industry peers, potential investors, and business partners. Networking is a crucial aspect of business growth, and WiMBIZ understands the importance of creating opportunities for women to expand their networks in meaningful ways. To make this event even more impactful, WiMBIZ has invited Mandy Malebe, an inspiring figure in the mining industry, to deliver the keynote address at the Networking Cocktail party. Mandy Malebe is a trailblazer who successfully turned an exploration project into an emerging mining operation, demonstrating the possibilities that await determined and visionary women in the industry. Her story is one of resilience, innovation, and leadership, making her the perfect speaker to motivate and inspire attendees to pursue their ambitions and break through barriers in the mining sector.
WiMBIZ’s participation in Electra Mining Africa 2024 represents a significant step forward in its mission to empower women entrepreneurs in the mining industry. By providing a platform for visibility, networking, and knowledge-sharing, WiMBIZ is not only helping women-owned businesses to grow but also contributing to the broader goal of fostering diversity and inclusion within the global mining sector. As women entrepreneurs continue to break new ground and challenge the status quo, organizations like WiMBIZ are essential in ensuring that they have the support, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed.
