Name of the Project
Ambler road project.
Location
The proposed road will stretch from the Dalton highway to the remote Ambler Mining District, in the US state of Alaska.
Project Owner/s
US exploration and development Trilogy Metals. The Ambler road is held by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority, a public corporation of the state of Alaska.
Project Description
The project forms part of the Upper Kobuk mineral project.
The road project entails the construction of 340 km of industrial road that will allow for access to one of the largest undeveloped copper/zinc mineral belts in the world; it contains extensive deposits of copper, silver, gold, lead, cobalt and other strategic metals.
The road will provide essential surface transportation access for the more than 1 700 active mining claims in the district, consequently supporting expanded mineral exploration, mine development and operations.
Potential Job Creation
Construction will directly support 2 730 jobs, driving income, spending and economic growth in rural Alaska.

Latest Developments
Trilogy Metals has reported that key federal right-of-way permits for the Ambler project have been concluded, consequently re-establishing the federal authorisations required to advance the industrial access road to the Ambler mining district.
The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) has signed the permits with the US Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management.
This follows the Presidential decision on October 6 under Section 1106 of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, directing agencies to reissue the authorisations originally granted in 2020.
The reinstated permits restore the 50-year right-of-way across federally managed lands, paving the way for AIDEA to resume road planning activities, including updates to engineering plans, budgets and programmes for the coming year.
Trilogy president and CEO Tony Giardini has said the milestone is “pivotal” for Alaska and the broader US supply chain.
“The road will provide access to a mining district that has the potential to strengthen the United States’ ability to secure domestic supplies of copper and other critical minerals essential to national defence, energy infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and the rapid growth of AI data centres.”
