Ascot to restart Premier mill in August
Vancouver-based Ascot Resources plans to restart operations at its Premier gold mill in British Columbia in early August, following a delay caused by labour shortages that slowed underground development.
The company said on Tuesday that it would initially operate the 2 500-t/d facility on a campaign basis, processing 1 250 t/d on a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule.
Ore will be sourced from both the Premier Northern Lights (PNL) and Big Missouri deposits.
Full-scale operations at the mill, located near Stewart, are expected in the first half of 2026 once mining begins at the nearby Silver Coin deposit. At that point, Ascot aims to ramp up to nameplate capacity of 2 500 t/d, running continuously seven days a week.
Recruitment efforts are under way to support the phased restart, with the company recently appointing a new mill manager and advertising for other key roles across the operation.
Ascot recently completed a C$61-million financing, which will help fund critical infrastructure upgrades. This includes the procurement of a 4 160 V transformer to boost power capacity at the PNL workings and the expansion of camp accommodations.
The new transformer, already on site, will enable multiple pieces of equipment to operate simultaneously - addressing current limitations caused by restricted power supply. Installation is in progress, with the additional power expected to come on line within days.
To support the growing workforce, Ascot has also ordered a 76-bed expansion for its camp. The first 38 beds have been installed, with the remaining beds scheduled for installation by June 2025.
With increased power and expanded camp capacity, Ascot expects its mining contractor, Procon Mining and Tunnelling, to ramp up productive operations as the company advances towards a full restart.
