ASX-listed Bougainville Copper said on Wednesday that its CEO, Johnny Patterson Auna, died suddenly on August 11 in Port Moresby.

Auna, 59, was appointed CEO in January 2025 after joining the company in March 2024 as CFO and company secretary. He had more than 35 years’ experience in finance, accounting, strategic planning, senior management and corporate operations in both the public and private sectors.

The miner said Auna’s extensive local knowledge and strong relationships across government and the community were invaluable, and that in a short time he had made “a significant positive impact” as BOC moved into a more active phase of its operations.

He is survived by his mother, wife, a daughter and two sons.

Chairperson Sir Melchior Togolo will serve as acting CEO until a permanent appointment is made.
