Goodwin showcases slurry solutions at Electra Mining
Goodwin Pumps Operations & Marketing Director Rui Gomes speaks to Mining Weekly at Electra Mining Africa.
Robust slurry pump provider Goodwin Submersible Pumps Africa will be exhibiting at this year's Electra Mining. As the sole distributor of Goodwin's electrically driven submersible abrasion-resistant slurry pumps in Africa, the company offers an array of products and services, including new pump sales, spare parts, repairs, service exchange and rental options from their Edenvale-based workshop.
Engineered for the most challenging applications in mining and other sectors, Goodwin pumps are recognized for their capability to manage highly-abrasive slurries with densities reaching up to 2.8 kg/l. These pumps come in multiple configurations, including 100 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm discharge sizes, with motor options ranging from 30 kW to 112 kW. The product line also features High Head Dewatering pumps and SDSS Super Duplex Stainless Steel acid-resistant pumps, meeting a wide range of industry requirements.
What sets Goodwin pumps apart is their pioneering design, which includes a unique Twin Volute casing that balances hydraulic thrust, and an integral motor submerged in oil to manage heat dissipation effectively. These features ensure longevity, reliability, and the ability to operate in fully submerged, partially submerged or non-submerged conditions. The innovative Goodwin Inducer also facilitates the movement of settled solids within a 3-m radius, making the pumps highly effective in challenging environments.
Goodwin Submersible Pumps Africa primarily serves the mining sector, working with various commodities such as gold, copper, platinum and coal, while also catering to industries such as power generation, agriculture and municipal services. Despite facing challenges such as capital constraints and the inefficiencies of non-original equipment manufacturer replacement parts, Goodwin Africa has successfully expanded its reach across Southern Africa and into new markets such as Zambia and Ghana. The company's commitment to offering a high return on investment through durable and reliable pump solutions has allowed them to build strong, long-term relationships with their customers.
