Multinational adhesive, sealant and functional coatings manufacturer Henkel and petrochemicals company Sasol have formed a strategic partnership focused on reducing the environmental impact of hot-melt adhesives.

Through the integration of Sasol’s newly developed SasolWax LC 100 product into Henkel’s Technomelt portfolio for the European, Indian, Middle Eastern and African markets, Henkel will soon deliver a reduced carbon emissions solution for consumer goods packaging manufacturers.

Henkel’s Technomelt adhesives are widely used in food and beverage packaging applications, as well as in hygiene and personal care products.

With the incorporation of SasolWax LC 100, Henkel empowers its customers to improve product sustainability at the material level, and also supports consumer brands in delivering on their climate commitments.

Sasol produces the SasolWax LC 100 product using a Fischer-Tropsch process to deliver a 35% reduction in product carbon footprint on a cradle-to-gate basis, compared with proven baseline formulas, without compromising on performance.

As a drop-in replacement in Henkel’s legacy formulations, it enables seamless adoption across production lines while aligning with Henkel’s ambition to reduce its Scope 3 greenhouse-gas emissions by 30% by 2030 – with 2021 as the baseline.

The partnership reflects both companies’ commitment to meet science-based targets and achieve credible sustainability practices.

Henkel Adhesive Technologies consumer goods VP Corbett Wallace says the partnership exemplifies how innovation in material science can enable measurable benefits for customers.

He adds that, as demand grows for more sustainable consumer goods, Henkel’s collaboration with Sasol allows brands to achieve their environmental goals without sacrificing quality or performance.

In turn, Sasol Chemicals marketing and sales senior VP David Mokomela says the strategic partnership with Henkel marks a key milestone in Sasol’s aligned path to a more sustainable future.
