IRMA approves South African company as an audit firm
Coalition the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) has approved South African company Resilience Environmental Assurance as the fourth audit firm authorised to conduct independent audits against the IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining.
This milestone expands the global audit capacity for the standard, helping to ensure robust third-party assessments of mine sites seeking to demonstrate conformity to internationally recognised best practices in environmental, social, health and safety and governance performance, the IRMA points out.
“Resilience Environmental Assurance’s approval as an audit firm authorised to conduct IRMA audits marks a pivotal step in our journey towards fostering responsible mining practices worldwide,” Resilience Environmental Assurance MD Warrick Stewart says.
“This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility within the mining sector. As MD, I am immensely proud of our team’s dedication and hard work in reaching this milestone.
“As a boutique firm, we are eager to leverage our deep local expertise, personalised service by our highly experienced team, agility and global presence to conduct comprehensive, accurate and independent assessments in support of responsible mining. Together with the IRMA, we aim to drive transparency, accountability and continuous improvement, paving the way for a more sustainable and ethical mining industry,” he adds.
“The addition of Resilience as an approved audit firm underscores the IRMA’s commitment to answering the increasing demand for responsibly sourced minerals,” IRMA executive director Aimee Boulanger says.
Resilience Environmental Assurance, the independent third-party assurance arm of Resilience Environmental Advice that was founded in South Africa in 2017, provides auditing and verification services across a range of sectors, including mining, manufacturing and sport and recreation.
The company operates globally, with a presence across Africa, Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australasia.
