US critical metals company Ivanhoe Electric has appointed Mike Patterson VP of investor relations and business development, with effect from August 19.

Patterson is a seasoned professional with a technical background in mining engineering and operations, as well as extensive financial experience in the natural resources sector.

After graduating from the Colorado School of Mines with a BSc in Mining Engineering, he began his career as a mining engineer where he worked for Luminant and Rio Tinto.

He then transitioned into the financial sector, where he spent eight years with Denver-based private equity firm Resource Capital Funds.

Patterson recently served as business development manager at KoBold Metals.

"We are excited to welcome Mike Patterson to Ivanhoe Electric. Mike has a strong combination of technical and financial experience in the mining sector that will be a valuable asset to our team. Mike’s leadership will be instrumental as we
continue to expand and improve our investor relations activities and execute our growth initiatives," comments Ivanhoe Electric president and CEO Taylor Melvin.

Ivanhoe Electric is focused on the development of assets that will produce critical metals, including copper, nickel, vanadium, cobalt, platinum group metals, gold and silver, that are needed for the green economy.

Its flagship projects are the Santa Cruz and Tintic mines in Arizona and Utah, respectively.
