Lithium Energy stakes Utah brines claims
Perth-based Lithium Energy announced on Wednesday it had secured a 6 150-ha package of mineral claims in Utah, in what it is calling the White Plains lithium brine project.
The newly staked claims, totaling 760 in number, are situated around 200 km west of Salt Lake City and cover a substantial portion of a landlocked hypersaline salt pan bounded by mountains on three sides — a geological setting the company believes could host lithium brine mineralisation.
The project lies in a region already attracting lithium and potash developers, with Intrepid Potash’s Wendover operations nearby and direct lithium extraction projects operated by US Magnesium and Waterleaf Resources at the Great Salt Lake.
“Following the successful development and sale of Lithium Energy’s Solaroz lithium brine project in Argentina, the company identified White Plains as a project that shows similar potential for value-add,” said executive chairperson William Johnson. “The experience gained by Lithium Energy in advancing Solaroz is directly applicable to the advancement of White Plains.”
Lithium Energy has also acquired historical exploration data from within the White Plains claim area and recently completed non-ground disturbing surveys. The results are now under review, with further technical planning expected in due course.
The White Plains project aligns with the company’s sharpened focus on battery minerals, particularly in mining-friendly jurisdictions with high domestic demand for lithium. Utah’s regulatory support and proximity to downstream battery supply chains in the US are expected to be strategic advantages.
“The securing of White Plains (together with the recent acquisition of the Capricorn gold/copper belt project in Queensland) is an integral part of Lithium Energy’s strategy for the eventual reinstatement of the company’s shares on ASX,” Johnson added.
