Safety equipment supplier Dromex continues to meet end-user requirements by providing them with “complete head-to-toe” safety solutions. To that end, Dromex has introduced two new styles in its footwear range – the Dromex Emperor Smelter Boot and Dromex Electrical Bolt Boot.

The flame-retardant and electricity-resistant Emperor Smelter Boot offers high performance, predominantly in foundries.

The fiberglass toecap and external metatarsal guard prevent injuries caused by hazard-specific incidents in foundries and smelters, as well as welding. The guard will protect the bridge of the foot from impact and molten metal liquid hazards.

Dromex marketing head Andrew Mysell explains that the design of the Emperor Smelter Boot’s upper, inner lining and in-sock add to the ergonomic comfort of the boot.

The Dromex Electrical Bolt Boot, meanwhile, has been developed for use in dry electrical environments in mining and power production.

It is designed to protect users’ feet from mechanical and electrical hazards, while offering optimum comfort for daily use, complying with the State-owned power utility Eskom’s 34-232 specification, which calls for electrical resistance to 20 kV for one minute.

The toecap of the Electrical Bolt Boot is made of a lightweight impact-resistant fiberglass that is rated up to about 200 J. The wider design provides extra room and comfort, preventing the toes and joints from rubbing onto the toecap.

Additionally, it features a padded collar that will ensure comfort and ankle support, as well as a leather pull tag to ensure that the boot is easier to put on and remove.

Both boots are manufactured from a “premium full-grain bovine leather” which is soft, flexible, water resistant and durable, while being hexavalent chromium free, making them environment-friendly.

The lightweight, anti-penetration midsole of both the Emperor Smelter and Electrical Bolt boots provides the foot with protection against heat and penetration, while the bellows tongue prevents liquids and/or particulates from penetrating the upper.

Both boots feature a slip-resistant, durable and lightweight polyurethane (PU) and nitrile rubber outsole, and an energy absorption heel. Additionally, both boots’ outsoles are rated as contact heat resistant up to 300 °C for up to a minute.

Moreover, both boots come with a removeable and breathable PU and memory foam in-sock, designed to provide “extreme comfort”, making the boots ideal for long standing hours.

Mysell concludes that Dromex is committed to ensuring the safety of all workers who use the company’s products. All its footwear is designed and tested in accordance with the latest EU standards, including EN 20345: 2022 (Safety footwear used for general purpose) and EN ISO20349-1:2017+A1:2020 (Footwear protecting against risks in foundries and welding), with specific styles created to address various workplace hazards.
