Heavy duty slurry pump manufacturer Schurco Slurry released its new rubber one-piece cover plate liner – installed in the cover plate of a pump – at this year’s Electra Mining Africa exhibition, which was held last month.

The one-piece liner ensures greater safety for pump installations. This is supported by the pump technician not having to battle to seal the initial two components with potentially sharp tools and decreases liner installation time, owing to the liner consisting of one piece, rather than two, Schurco Slurry MD Emile Fourie tells Engineering News.

“The safety and speed afforded by the liner is, consequently, more economically viable for mining operations. It provides a simpler and quicker way of replacing parts in a pump.”

While the one-piece is available for most of the pump ranges provided by Schurco Slurry, the company has limited its use for the H6HS pump, with the aim of eventually introducing it across the range of older pumps.

The product was developed in the US and is being rolled out in the African market, with Schurco Slurry aiming to introduce both its polyurethane range and rubber range to allow greater flexibility for the company from a technical perspective.

“We have been releasing the one-piece liner into the US market over the past two years to test the product and how it runs economically. The liner has proven successful, with hundreds of our clients using the liner on installations that we have conducted,” says Fourie.

Schurco Slurry aims to expand its offering by bringing new materials to the market and providing additional solutions for mining companies.

It also invests continuously in new technology and in modernising its product realisation strategy.

Fourie says technology has enabled the company to be more competitive in the market, as it ensures that its products are of adequate standard.

Schurco Slurry has invested in a progressive plan to focus on the technical ability of its engineers and their being available to provide solutions for clients globally.

The company also aims to expand its service offering to markets in the US, Africa the Middle East and Europe.
