Rio Tinto-funded lithium drilling gets under way at Charger project

ASX-listed Charger Metals has initiated reverse circulation (RC) drilling at its Lake Johnson project, in Western Australia. The work is being funded by Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX), pursuant to an RTX farm-in agreement.

RC drill programmes of up to 5 000 m will test priority lithium targets at the greater Medcalf prospect and the Mt Gordon prospect.

Charger MD Aidan Platel said Charger had previously confirmed a high-grade spodumene system at Medcalf. He added that Charger was also eager to drill its first holes at the Mt Gordon prospect.

At the greater Medcalf prospect, drilling will test for potential strike extensions to the known high-grade lithium mineralisation associated with spodumene-bearing pegmatites intersected in previous drilling campaigns. It will also target the 1.2 km strike of outcropping spodumene-bearing pegmatites that trends to the south-west from the main Medcalf mineralisation, where rock chips resulted in up to 4.2% lithium oxide.

At the Mt Gordon prospect, RC drilling will target the large soil anomalies, which extend for more than 3 km into the adjacent Jaegermeister lithium prospect delineated by TG Metals.

The drilling is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete, depending on results and potential delays owing to inclement weather.
