Rio Tinto has launched the last edition of its Beyond Rare tender, offering a final set of pink, red, violet, yellow and white diamonds from its Canadian and Australian operations.

The tender, titled 'Into the Light', comprises 52 lots weighing 45.44 ct. It marks the culmination of the miner’s Art Series, with production having ended at the Argyle mine in Western Australia in 2020 and scheduled to cease at Diavik in Canada in 2026.

Six so-called Masterpieces – curated diamond sets showcasing the pinnacle of production – headline the collection, which also features 39 single stones and seven curated sets. Among them are one GIA Fancy Red diamond, 12 Fancy Violet diamonds, 76 Fancy Pink and Purple-Pink stones, a Fancy Vivid Yellow weighing 6.12 ct, and two D-colour Flawless White diamonds of 5.11 ct and 3.02 ct, both cut from the same rough.

“It is hard to overstate the importance of this final collection from two extraordinarily beautiful places on earth – the East Kimberley region of Western Australia and the Northwest Territories of Canada,” said Rio Tinto Diamonds GM of sales and marketing Patrick Coppens. “No other mining company in the world has custody of such an exquisite collection of diamond colours, shapes and sizes and we all pay tribute to the men and women who have worked so hard over many years to bring them to market.”

The stones, prized for their provenance and rarity, are expected to draw strong interest from jewellers, collectors and connoisseurs. Showcases will be held in Hong Kong, Australia and Antwerp ahead of the October 20 close of bidding.
