Sarens is the global leader and reference in crane rental services, heavy lifting, and engineered transport.
At Sarens Siba, we have the noble mission to be the reference in crane rental services, heavy lifting, and engineered transport for our clients.
With state-of-the-art equipment and value engineering, we offer our clients creative and intelligent solutions to today’s heavy lifting and engineered transport challenges.
Sarens Siba used the Level 5 lockdown in South Africa as an opportunity to perform a full organizational and structural change and as part of our new strategy. A plan was put in motion to implement a depot structure with physical depots in key locations right in front of our clients’ doorstep. These new depots are located in Sasolburg, Secunda, Witbank, Brits and a set up for our crawler and larger mobile cranes (Heavies).
“Within our Heavies division, we aim to increase our focus on Engineering, Procurement, Contracting and Management (EPCM) companies, bigger construction companies and directly working with the end client. We are also seeing an increased involvement in the pre-tender phase, mainly for advice in the Front-End-Engineering Design (FEED) phase,” stipulates Hennie Groenewald, Depot Manager of Heavies. “With our fleet of crawler cranes up to 800T and mobile cranes up to 500T lifting capacity, we want to be the best in class for any project work in Southern Africa. Additionally, our clients can rely on top notch engineering services, alternative lifting solutions such as our self-propelled modular trailers, conventional transport, jacking and skidding systems.”
We recently removed for a client an existing bridge deck and installed a new one, weighing 200T. For this project in Western Cape, we deployed our 500T crawler crane with an extensive rigging setup. The biggest challenge was to implement a tackle system that would use vertical lifting forces only based on the five lifting hoops on each side of the bridge. Considering time restraints, Sarens Siba provided our client with a tackle combination consisting of one main 19m spreader connected to two smaller 3m spreaders. This system alone created a vertical lifting strategy for 10 lifting points. The intermediate lifting hoops utilised 30T chain blocks which could be adjusted in stroke as necessary, ensuring no slag as illustrated on the photo.
“Our Heavies division is also responsible for any cross-border projects. One of these projects is the prestigious Okavango Bridge Project in Botswana where we supply multiple cranes and various amount of plant machinery to our client. For another South African client, we are performing a maintenance, upgrade and shutdown work in Zimbabwe. When entering projects in neighbouring countries, Sarens Siba emphasizes on local employment, training and setting up a local network of suppliers to support our cross-border projects.”
Within our Heavies department, clients can expect a solution to any complex, heavy, or alternative lift required for their project, either small or big. Building on top of the successful implementation of the depot structure that provides our clients with an improved cost-effective service, Sarens Siba management also has a very strong Visible Felt Leadership drive. Our Visible Felt Leadership drive aims to build credibility, demonstrate commitment, and lead by inspirational employee engagement.
As we move beyond the challenges of COVID, we strive to offer continued services, to observe and explore opportunities in shifting market conditions, to improve our systems and processes, and deliver excellent services to our clients with top safety standards.
