Brazil-focused gold miner Serabi Gold has reported a second fatal accident in as many days at its operations, following an underground traffic incident at its Palito complex.

The company said at the weekend that an employee was killed in a mining-related accident at the Palito underground operation on January 30. The incident was related to a traffic accident underground and no other personnel were injured.

The latest fatality follows the death of another employee last week at Serabi’s Coringa underground mine, where a worker was killed in an accident at the production face.

Serabi said it had notified the relevant authorities, including the police, and is providing assistance with investigations into the incident at Palito. The involvement of Brazilian authorities means inquiries remain ongoing.

Production in the area of the Palito incident is expected to resume within a few days once authorities have completed their enquiries, while mining operations elsewhere at the complex remain unaffected.
