Surge Copper pushes Berg project into full PFS design phase
TSX-V-listed Surge Copper has moved its Berg copper/molybdenum project in British Columbia into full prefeasibility study (PFS) design and cost work, following the completion of trade-off studies that set the project’s throughput and power-connection parameters.
The company expects the PFS to be delivered in the middle of the first half of 2026.
Surge said the study would incorporate new datasets from drilling, metallurgical testing, geotechnical investigation and environmental baseline work gathered over the past three years.
Surge reported that Ausenco Engineering Canada had been named lead consultant for the PFS and will oversee process-plant design, metallurgical modelling, power and site infrastructure, and tailings and water management.
Moose Mountain Technical Services (MMTS) will lead mineral resource estimation, openpit design and scheduling. Both firms previously supported the 2023 PEA and have continued technical engagement on the project.
“Over the past several years, our team has completed a substantial body of technical work that has materially strengthened the foundation of the Berg project. We are pleased to be advancing the PFS with Ausenco and MMTS, both of whom bring deep technical expertise and a long history of work on large-scale copper development projects. The PFS will mark a major step forward for Berg, including our first opportunity to establish initial mineral reserves for a project of this scale," said CEO Leif Nilsson.
He added that a project of this scale, in a Tier-1 jurisdiction, has the potential to play a meaningful role in meeting the growing long-term supply needs of the global copper and molybdenum markets. "We look forward to delivering on this next milestone for the company.”
