Australian lithium explorer and developer Wildcat Resources has announced a new mineral resource estimate (MRE) for its Tabba Tabba prospect, near Port Hedland, confirming the project as the largest undeveloped lithium resource in the country.

Tabba Tabba has a MRE of 74.1-million tonnes at 1% lithium oxide, with 94% in the indicated category.

The resource estimate is the foundation on which the company can aspire to rapidly complete its prefeasibility study and report the maiden ore reserve estimate at Tabba Tabba.

“We have now confirmed Wildcat has the largest and the highest confidence undeveloped publicly reported lithium resource in Australia which was delivered in record time,” said MD AJ Saverimutto.

“With significant other advantages including granted mining leases, proximity to port, outcropping mineralisation, and excellent metallurgical recoveries we believe we are the best potential lithium developer globally,” he added.

Tabba Tabba is near two of the world’s largest hard-rock lithium mines. It lies 47 km from Pilbara Minerals’ 414-million-tonne Pilgangoora project and 87 km from Mineral Resources’ 259-million-tonne Mt Wodgina project.

The project is also only 80 km by road to Port Hedland. The mining leases were last in production in 2015 for tantalum.
