GenusPlus wins A$60m Fortescue contracts to support decarbonisation push
Australian power and communications infrastructure provider GenusPlus said on Wednesday it had secured three contracts worth about A$60-million from Fortescue to support the miner’s decarbonisation programme in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The contracts include the construction of 220 kV transmission lines, the design and construction of about 30 km of overhead power distribution infrastructure at Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine, and the construction of fast charger and pit power facilities at the Eliwana and Flying Fish sites.
Fortescue aims to achieve Real Zero terrestrial emissions by 2030 across its mining, port, rail, non-process infrastructure, and mobile fleet operations. The contracts form part of the company’s broader plan to develop green power generation across its Pilbara assets.
Genus will build overhead 220 kV transmission infrastructure within Fortescue’s Solomon mine, as well as overhead 33 kV power distribution systems comprising 300 poles, conductor lines, and associated hardware. The company expects peak onsite employment of around 80 personnel, with work commencing in October 2025 and completing in the fourth quarter of 2026.
“Genus is very pleased to have been awarded these additional contracts by Fortescue as Genus continues to support Fortescue with its decarbonisation initiatives in Western Australia,” said MD David Riches. “Genus is committed to strengthening its longstanding and successful partnership with Fortescue as Fortescue advances toward its decarbonisation goals.”
