GR Silver halts field work in Mexico amid security push
Toronto-listed GR Silver Mining has temporarily suspended field activities at its Plomosas silver project in Sinaloa, Mexico, citing a proactive move in response to regional security issues.
The company emphasised that there have been no violent incidents or direct threats at its project sites. However, management opted to pause on-the-ground exploration to allow time for authorities to stabilise the broader area.
“This is a temporary step to ensure the safety of our employees, consultants, and community stakeholders,” GR Silver CEO and chairperson Eric Zaunscherb said in a statement. “We remain fully committed to the Plomosas project and will resume work as soon as it is prudent to do so.”
The decision comes shortly after the company kicked off a step-out drilling programme targeting a 350-m north-west extension of its San Marcial resource zone. Initial drilling and surface sampling at the NW Extension zone have identified prospective targets, including wide silver-dominant hydrothermal breccias.
In the interim, the company's geological team will continue modelling and data analysis from its office in El Rosario. GR Silver also reiterated ongoing discussions with third parties regarding a potential bulk sampling and test mining programme at the previously permitted Plomosas mine.
Based in Canada, GR Silver is focused on expanding its silver/gold resource base in the Rosario mining district, where it holds 100% ownership of all its assets.
