Nothing less than full transparency is a must from State-owned enterprises

Surprisingly, some State-owned enterprises are engaging in unacceptable secrecy. Tenders, which should be invited publicly, are being invited under a cloud of secrecy.

When the media requests insight, this is denied. Journalists waste precious time with public enterprises, which only reveal that they have opted for full confidentiality after being repeatedly approached. Executives of secretive public enterprises and the private-sector executives that are collaborating are exposing themselves and their companies to major potential reputational damage.

It won’t be long before journalists reach the point of being fully justified in telling the world that certain organisations owned by the State are being led by individuals who run public enterprises as if they are their personal fiefdoms – and private-sector companies are engaging in irregular collaboration with them.
