Now’s the time for extensive engineering enablement across the country

The time for action in South Africa on the engineering front is now. The way needs to be opened for urgent and more extensive upgrading of water, transport and particularly renewable-energy infrastructure. Maximum public-private collaboration is the way to go, with contracts awarded on merit and with all entry points for potential construction criminal infiltration firmly blocked.

The Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act regulations must ensure that construction hours are maximised and costs minimised. Let’s ensure that engineers are adequately engaged to play rebuild and new build roles across the length and breadth of our country.
