Mining technology solutions provider Datamine aims to expand its asset and fleet management solutions for mining, industrial and construction operations, through its parent software development company Vela’s acquisition of Samtech – a Latin America-based fleet management, machine performance and telematics software and hardware provider.

Datamine will also be responsible for the global distribution of Samtech’s products to mining industry players, including the overarching monitoring system for all equipment types. These products are likely to complement Datamine’s Sodep Minetrack dispatch solution.

“Samtech impressed us with their innovative sensor technologies and ability to monitor very large fleets. The complementary fit between our existing dispatch and asset management technology with the Samtech offering is exciting, and we look forward to providing a comprehensive, OEM-independent solution to our customers in Latin America, and around the world,” says Datamine CEO Dylan Webb.

Samtech’s fleet management and comprehensive management suite solution will enable mine industry players to thoroughly trace and monitor fleet vehicles in various processes of the mining operation, including heavy, light and ancillary fleet vehicles.

It also hones the capability to design, manufacture and develop specialist sensors for data collection, which can be analysed, processed into useful information, and used for improvement or research and development.

“Samtech has distinguished itself as a dependable partner and has become a leader in the fleet management space with a large and loyal customer base in the Chilean mining industry,” says Datamine Americas COO Daniel Chausson.

“[Samtech’s] commitment to long-term relationships and providing superior products and support is evident in the business’s growth trajectory and high customer satisfaction.

“We are excited to welcome Samtech’s highly experienced team, and under the leadership of [Samtech CEO] Cristian Barrientos, take the Samtech technology to our global mining customer base,” he adds.

The comprehensive management suite on offer from Samtech, which amalgamates administrative, logistics and operational data, will give Datamine’s global mining client base access to solutions for customising business process rules, which will support decision-making and contribute to improvement and productivity.

“This is a new stage of growth and evolution for us, where the main beneficiaries will be our valued customers, who will have greater support and access to a broader portfolio of solutions, which will allow them to further improve the performance of their businesses,” says Barrientos.

Founded in 2007 and based in Santiago, Chile, Samtech has more than 600 customers, and is a supplier of fleet management, machine performance and telematics software and hardware.

With Datamine’s client base of 6 000 companies worldwide, it is likely that Samtech’s products will be deployed in mining operations, globally.
