South African proximity detection system (PDS) pioneer Booyco Electronics continues to play a pivotal role in the quest for Zero Harm in the mining sector.

An acknowledged leader in the field, the company offers safety solutions for underground and surface mining, quarrying, construction, forestry and materials handling.

Leveraging the company’s significant investment in its South Africa-based engineering and production facility as well as its years of experience, Booyco Electronics stays abreast of global technological advancements, both from a hardware and software perspective.

This is aligned with the company’s design philosophy to provide a solid hardware platform on which the functionality and performance of the software is built.

The system architecture for both its PDSes and collision prevention systems (CPSes) can be easily expanded and adapted to new technological developments, and this is done through greater collaboration with both vehicle and materials handling original equipment manufacturer (OEMs).

Established in 2006, Booyco Electronics has remained a leader in the use of very low frequency (VLF) technology in underground mining.

This technology allows signals to be transmitted through rock walls, allowing vital communication between sensors on pedestrians and trackless mobile machinery, ultimately ensuring that pedestrians will still be warned of approaching vehicles, even if out of sight around the corner.

Significantly, the Booyco PDSes and CPSes can detect as many as seven trackless mobile machines and 20 pedestrians within one scenario in the underground environment.

The company also has extensive experience in developing safety solutions using radio frequency and global positioning system technologies for surface applications.

The latest Booyco CXS solution is a comprehensive and integrated response to Level 7, Level 8 and Level 9 safety levels for both people and vehicle detection – as defined by the Earth Moving Equipment Safety Round Tabl, or EMESRT, and adopted by Minerals Council South Africa.

The Booyco CXS solution interfaces with OEM equipment via the ISO 21815 standard.

The Booyco Electronics Asset Management System (BEAMS) is a software suite deployed at customers facilitating accurate reporting. BEAMS can integrate with a lamp room management system, or a similar surface allocation and management system.
