The slowdown in the construction sector has reduced the demand for new equipment, adversely impacting on sales figures, says construction equipment distributor Develon SA.

However, there is often an uptick in rental services amid such conditions, as companies opt for short-term solutions.

Develon SA offers a broad portfolio of machinery, including fuel-efficient models that lower operating costs, making them more attractive, especially in a constrained economic climate.

The company has recently introduced several machines to enhance efficiency and productivity in construction, such as the Develon DX1000LC-7 excavator, which features an advanced hydraulic system that improves digging precision and reduces operator fatigue, and the highly manoeuvrable Develon DA45 ADT, which has a low centre of gravity, making it ideal for heavy-load transport on rough terrain.

It has also recently delivered multiple units of Develon excavators and wheel loaders to major contractors across Southern Africa. Clients include large construction contractors and mining companies, with this equipment primarily being used for large-scale infrastructure projects, mining operations and bulk materials handling on sites across South Africa and in other African markets.

Further, Develon SA is implementing several strategic initiatives to maintain and expand its market position – including the launch of new product models, such as the Develon DX1000LC-7 and DA45 ADT, and plans to adopt fuel-efficient engines and digital monitoring systems to optimise fleet performance.

Develon SA’s national sales manager Johann Viljoen adds that the company will also continue offering technical training and after-sales support to ensure optimal machine use and maintenance, while strengthening the company’s footprint across Southern Africa through distribution networks and localised service centres.

He highlights that the equipment used on this continent’s terrain must be built to withstand extreme conditions, requiring advancements in design and durability. Moreover, the construction sector is increasingly shifting towards greener energy and fuel-efficient solutions.

Additionally, ensuring a consistent supply of parts and timely maintenance services are significant challenges, but Develon SA mitigates this through its extensive support network.

It is also actively integrating green energy solutions and fuel-efficiency measures to meet modern sector demands and this includes fuel-efficient engines, eco-friendly technologies, remote monitoring and telematics.

“Develon SA plays a pivotal role in supporting South Africa’s construction sector by supplying good-quality heavy machinery tailored to the sector’s demanding needs. Develon, previously known as Doosan, has expanded its footprint in Southern Africa, providing advanced equipment, backed by a robust network of technical support, spare parts and operator training,” Viljoen highlights.

“The company continues to enhance its offering by developing automation technologies with future-ready solutions, such as the Develon Concept-X for autonomous equipment, and strengthening partnerships with contractors to ensure tailored equipment solutions that maximise cost savings,” Viljoen says.
