Rental solutions benefit materials handling projects

RENTAL FORKLIFTS The hiring of OEM forklifts can prove to be a cost-effective and efficient solution for businesses which are looking to accommodate their peak season processes
Short-term rental solutions for materials handling equipment can be highly beneficial for operations, such as agriculture, logistics and warehousing, that are accompanied by fluctuating needs.
In a recent release published by industrial and materials handling equipment supplier CFAO Equipment, it is noted that technical support, product quality and fleet availability are important considerations that businesses must scrutinise when choosing a partner for materials handling equipment.
CFAO Equipment national operations manager Bianca Smit says that businesses can improve cost savings by opting for a short-term rental solution – such as hiring forklifts or pallet jacks – to meet peak season demands without having to spend large amounts of money on expensive materials handling equipment that will not be used throughout the year.
“One example is South Africa’s agricultural sector. During fruit harvesting season, which differs in each province, the demand for materials handling equipment surges,” she says.
She also says that businesses will be afforded access to “advanced equipment and innovative technology” that may have been too expensive to purchase, which comes as an additional benefit for multisectoral organisations or businesses.
“When businesses are starting out and not sure of their exact materials handling needs, short-term rentals make a lot of sense. Not only will they be able to get a sense of their ongoing and future business needs before committing to purchasing machines, but renting can also help them manage their cash flow better,” she notes.
Further, Smit says that it is important to select a rental partner that offers a contract with flexible rental terms. This will ensure that the customer only pays for what is needed.
Additionally, the rental partner ought to be a verified supplier of equipment manufactured by an original-equipment manufacturer (OEM), ensuring that the machinery and its parts are of a high standard and are supplied at a competitive rate.
OEM equipment will allow businesses access to a variety of customisable machines and tools that are equipped with features and certifications to ensure the safety of workers and the environment. This consideration also aligns with customers identifying rental partners with the most energy-efficient equipment.
Additionally, it is important for businesses to consider the rental partner’s reputation and customer service. Ensuring that the rental partner is a credible product and service provider that pays attention to ensuring that the customer receives what they require, will enable the business to avoid mishaps during the completion of projects.
A reliable customer service team will also ensure that operations are maintained without any disruptions.
“It’s important to look for rental agreements that offer flexibility, transparency and a high level of support. Being clear on the terms for delivery, [use], penalties and training is critical and can help avoid pitfalls. By understanding these elements upfront, businesses can maximise the value from their rental agreements while minimising unexpected costs or disruptions during peak periods,” she concludes.
