The national electricity transmission grid that has served us well down the years now needs very special attention. Upping our electricity generation game is one thing but failure to match that with greater electricity transmission availability will get us nowhere. Far too much is being taken for granted on the electricity transmission front – and not only by South Africans, it seems.

The International Energy Agency reckons that the $260-billion spent worldwide on electricity grids a year is far less than is needed. Providing more electricity transmission capacity is of the utmost importance, and keeping vandals away from what we have has suddenly popped up as an urgent new need as well.
